David, a charming but slightly clumsy fellow, landed his dream job – a corporate driver! Working with a top company in Lagos. He envisioned himself cruising the city, tunes blasting, conquering traffic with a smile. Reality, however, wasn’t quite as smooth.
His first assignment? Drive the COO to a board meeting. David, ever the optimist, decided a shortcut through a narrow street was a brilliant idea. Needless to say, the “shortcut” ended with a symphony of potholes and a very disappointed boss.
This (and a few other mishaps) made David realize – being a driver isn’t just about having a license and a good playlist. Competent drivers need:
Knowledge of the road: Knowing traffic laws, blind spots, and safe maneuvering are key.
Awareness: Staying alert to pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles is crucial.
Defensive driving: Anticipating risks and reacting calmly keeps everyone safe.
David enrolled in a driver competence course, honed his skills, and became a chauffeur legend!
The takeaway? Driver competence isn’t just about getting from A to B. It’s about ensuring everyone on the road has a safe and happy journey.
